South Downs National Park Authority has appointed Bruton Knowles to assess the viability of developments as it prepares for thousands of new homes across the National Park.
The chartered surveying firm will act as the Authority’s sole provider of specialist viability advice under a new two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year.
The appointment continues a relationship between the two organisations that has already run for six years and comes as the Authority progresses its planning strategy through to 2042.
Under the single-supplier framework, estimated to be worth £150,000, Bruton Knowles will scrutinise Financial Viability Assessments submitted alongside planning applications.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The work will include reviewing applicants’ assessments and producing independent reports, as well as negotiating with developers and their advisers where required.

“Having experienced consultants like Bruton Knowles on board who independently assess the viability of potential developments during the application process means that we are supported in maximising opportunities for providing affordable housing, while ensuring a development remains viable and can be completed.”
DEVELOPMENT VIABILITY
Most instructions are expected to involve residential schemes, although Bruton Knowles will also assess viability issues involving pubs, retail and rural developments.
