BSR seeks resident Chair to lead safety panel

Building Safety Regulator is recruiting an independent Chair for its Residents’ Panel, in a move aimed at strengthening the role of resident voices within the building safety regime.

The appointment will see a high-rise resident take on a key leadership position, providing oversight and direction to the panel and helping ensure lived experience is reflected in regulatory thinking, policy development and decision-making.
The Residents’ Panel brings together individuals with direct experience of living in higher-risk buildings, offering a structured forum to raise concerns and share insight into how the system operates in practice.

While the panel does not replace formal regulatory processes, it is designed to embed resident perspectives into the wider building safety framework, informing how regulation is applied and evolves over time.

PRACTICAL INSIGHT

The new Chair will be responsible for leading quarterly meetings, facilitating open and inclusive discussions and helping translate resident experience into practical insight that can support the regulator’s work.

Candidates must be current residents of high-rise buildings, ensuring the role is grounded in first-hand experience of the higher-risk building regime. The regulator is seeking someone with strong leadership and facilitation skills, alongside the ability to represent resident interests with clarity and confidence.

Experience in housing, regulation or public service may be beneficial, but the focus is on the ability to build trust, communicate effectively and challenge constructively where required.
