The owners of Biggleswade Town FC announced last week that they were putting the club’s Langford Road stadium site on the market, bringing an end to more than three decades of involvement with the Bedfordshire club.
Now in a statement released by the Dorrington family, the decision was described as “with much sadness”, marking a significant moment for one of non-league football’s long-standing community clubs.
The move follows the recent launch to market of the 11-acre Langford Road site through Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), revealed by Property Soup last week, which described the sale as a rare opportunity to acquire both a fully operational football club and an established community sports hub.
Biggleswade Town FC, known locally as “The Waders”, competes in the Southern League Division One Central and has been based at Langford Road for decades. The site includes a stadium with a capacity of more than 3,000, a floodlit 3G pitch, multiple grass pitches, clubhouse facilities and parking for more than 150 vehicles.
COMMUNITY HUB
The Dorrington family has played a central role in sustaining the club and its wider community activities for many years.
Club patriarch Maurice Dorrington has supported local football and community initiatives for more than 35 years, while daughter Annette Dorrington has been involved for the past 16 years.
In the statement, the family said: “It is with much sadness that we have come to the decision as a family to market Langford Road site, the home of the Waders.
“Maurice Dorrington has dedicated his time and support to local football and the community for well over 35 years, and in the last 16 years has been joined by his daughter Annette Dorrington to continue that support.
“However, it has been decided that it is now time to offer the opportunity for others to take the club and the site forward.”
GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL
The family also acknowledged the contribution of volunteers, supporters and the wider local community who have supported grassroots football operations at the club over many years.
“Grass roots football requires dedication, time, effort and a great deal of patience,” the statement continued.
“We have been extremely fortunate over the years to be supported by so many dedicated members of the public who have come forward to support their local community and for all those that have been part of the journey we extend our thanks and appreciation.”
Despite the sale process, the family confirmed that both Biggleswade Town FC and Biggleswade Town Youth FC are expected to continue operating as normal during the 2026/27 season.
Interested parties have been directed to contact Charles McLean at Lambert Smith Hampton regarding the sale.
