Rightmove and Propertymark to explain homebuying reforms

Estate agents will have the opportunity to hear directly from industry experts about the Government’s proposed homebuying reforms at a webinar hosted by Rightmove and Propertymark this week.

The session follows the Government’s recent publication of its roadmap for reforming the home-moving process, which aims to improve transaction speed, increase transparency and reduce the number of failed property sales.
Rightmove says it worked closely with Government during the consultation process, providing market data, consumer insight and industry feedback to help inform the proposals.

The webinar, taking place today (25 June, 2026) between 13:00 and 14:00, will examine the reforms in more detail and explore what they could mean for agents, buyers and sellers in practice.

Propertymark Chief Executive Officer Nathan Emerson will join the session to help explain the proposals and answer questions from agents during a live discussion.

The reforms come against a backdrop of longstanding concerns about delays and uncertainty within the homebuying process.

According to Rightmove, the average property transaction currently takes around 170 days to complete once a sale has been agreed, while almost a quarter (23%) of agreed sales ultimately fall through before completion.

The Government’s proposals are designed to address some of these challenges by introducing more information earlier in the transaction process and encouraging greater use of digital systems.

AGENT IMPACT

Industry bodies have broadly welcomed the direction of travel, although many have stressed that successful implementation will be crucial if meaningful improvements are to be achieved.

Jason Charles (main picture), Head of Education at Rightmove, said: “This session, just days after the Government’s announcement, will go through what we know currently about the home-moving reform plans and what they could mean for agents.

“While some of the detail is still to emerge, we want to help agents to get ahead of any changes to the way the home-moving process works and make sure they feel confident talking to sellers and buyers about them.”

The webinar forms part of Rightmove’s wider programme of training and education aimed at helping agents navigate regulatory and operational changes affecting the housing market.

With reforms expected to reshape parts of the transaction process in the coming years, many agents will be looking closely at how the proposals could impact day-to-day practice and client expectations.
