A former toll house linked to one of the most turbulent episodes in Welsh history is heading to auction with a guide price of £69,000.
The Gate House at Llannon, near Llanelli, was built during the 19th century by the Three Commotts Turnpike Trust to collect charges from people using local roads.
Tollgates across west and mid Wales subsequently became targets during the Rebecca Riots, when protesters – many of them farmers disguised in women’s clothing – attacked gates in opposition to the charges imposed by turnpike trusts.
The historic building has since been converted into a detached two-bedroom cottage and will be offered for sale online through Paul Fosh Auctions with vacant possession.

Its accommodation includes two reception rooms, a kitchen and dining room, bathroom and two bedrooms. The property also has double glazing, electric storage heating, parking for two vehicles and a secluded rear garden with an outbuilding.

Any change to holiday accommodation would remain subject to the necessary planning, licensing and regulatory requirements.
Llannon is located on the A476 between Tumble and Swiss Valley, approximately 11 miles south-east of Carmarthen. The wider community encompasses Llannon, Tumble and Cross Hands.
