Dandara has started construction of a 56-home development in the East Sussex village of South Chailey.
The Cygnets will provide a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, including homes for affordable rent and shared ownership.
The development, which has views towards the South Downs National Park, is expected to welcome its first residents this winter.
Its name was inspired by The Swan House, a nearby listed former public house.
LOCALLY INSPIRED DESIGN
Dandara says the homes have been designed to complement South Chailey’s traditional architecture, using locally influenced materials and detailing.

David Garrett, Managing Director of Dandara South East, says: “This groundbreaking marks an important milestone for us as we begin work on this vibrant new neighbourhood, which has been thoughtfully designed to meet local housing needs.
“Our homes have been carefully planned to complement the character of the traditional properties in the area and incorporate locally inspired materials and architectural detailing that reflect the heritage of the surrounding neighbourhood.
“With a broad range of homes available and such a desirable location just minutes from the centre of South Chailey, we are expecting a great deal of interest in the development.”
ACCESS TO LEWES AND BRIGHTON
The Cygnets is within walking distance of the South Downs National Park and Chailey’s historic 18th-century windmill.
South Chailey has a convenience store, doctor’s surgery and primary and secondary schools, with further facilities available in surrounding towns and villages.
The development is around 10 minutes by car from Lewes and approximately 30 minutes from Brighton. London can be reached in just over an hour by train from nearby Cooksbridge station.
Residents will also have access to local bus services and connections to the A23, A26 and M23.
