Tube strikes and World Cup drive demand for office bedrooms

Demand for in-office bedrooms in the City of London has surged ahead of this summer’s Tube strikes and FIFA World Cup fixtures as workers look for ways to avoid travel disruption while remaining close to the office.

Flexible office provider Office Space in Town (OSiT) said its “Cabins” – a suite of hotel-style bedrooms integrated within its Monument office location – are now fully booked between 11 and 19 June.
The fully-booked period coincides with planned Tube walkouts and the opening stages of the FIFA World Cup, with some England and Scotland matches scheduled to kick off late at night UK time.

OSiT says the spike in bookings reflects changing workplace habits, with commuters increasingly prioritising flexibility, convenience and integrated workplace amenities as office attendance continues to recover.

The company says the bedrooms have been used for a range of purposes since launch, including overnight stays after corporate events, accommodation for international staff and increasingly by commuters seeking to avoid transport disruption during strike action.

The rise in demand also comes as more employers continue encouraging staff back into the office.

OSiT cited data showing UK office attendance reached 44.2% in mid-February 2026 – the highest weekly level recorded since before the pandemic.

Sarah Singlehurst, Co-Founder of OSiT, says: “The Tube strikes and World Cup have reinforced how important flexibility and certainty have become for workers in London.

“We are seeing The Cabins used in a very practical way, helping people to remain in the City and maintain their working commitments despite disruption to transport, while also being able to enjoy the football kicking off late in the evening.

“This reflects a broader shift in how our businesses and employees think about their relationship with the workplace.”

The bedrooms form part of OSiT’s wider “Omni-Office” concept, which integrates lifestyle and leisure facilities directly into office buildings.

Across its five Zone 1 London locations, the company already offers amenities including rooftop bars, gyms, salons and social lounges, with future expansion plans expected to include larger buildings featuring facilities such as rooftop padel courts, nurseries and dental practices.
