A former chapel in the heart of the South Wales Valleys is set to go under the hammer with a guide price of just £5,000 – less than the cost of a luxury Mediterranean cruise.
The former Bryn Heulog Chapel, located on Ruperra Street in New Tredegar, Gwent, is among more than 100 lots due to be offered at the next Paul Fosh Auctions sale later this month.
The substantial stone-built building, which sits against a backdrop of rolling valley hills, is being marketed as a redevelopment opportunity for investors, developers or buyers looking to breathe new life into a historic community asset.
Although the exterior of the property is heavily overgrown, auctioneers say the interior presents a different picture, with significant potential for a range of future uses, subject to the necessary planning consents.
ATTRACTIVE OPPORTUNITY
Olivia Williams (main picture, inset), who is managing the sale for Paul Fosh Auctions, reckons the property could represent an attractive opportunity for buyers prepared to undertake renovation works.

“This substantial stone built former chapel/community building could be a real bargain for an investor or entrepreneur with an eye for a good deal,” she saays
“The chapel appears fairly overgrown and neglected from the outside but inside it’s a different matter altogether. Nevertheless, the property will most likely require refurbishment and renovation irrespective of what a new owner plans to do with this lovely former chapel.
“The building has immense character and development potential. It’s situated in the heart of the village of New Tredegar with a glorious backdrop of rolling hills and all the while is close to local shops and amenities.”
RESIDENTIAL CONVERSION
Williams suggests the building could potentially be converted into residential accommodation or repurposed for community use, subject to planning approval.

She adds: “This could be a great opportunity for the small investor with imagination. The former chapel could perhaps be converted into a residential home or perhaps for community use, all subject to obtaining the necessary planning consents.”

New Tredegar is located within easy reach of Bargoed, Blackwood and the A465 Heads of the Valleys road, while nearby Parc Bryn Bach offers more than 340 acres of parkland and leisure facilities.
The property will be offered for sale during Paul Fosh Auctions’ online auction, which begins at 12 noon on 23 June and concludes from 2pm on 25 June.
