Southern Housing New Homes is rolling out three developments across East Sussex to help meet demand for affordable housing in a county where average house prices outpace the national level.
The schemes – Holmhurst Gardens in Hastings, Foundry Close in Hurst Green (main image) and the soon-to-launch Ingrams Farm in Ninfield – will deliver two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and bungalows through Shared Ownership.
Shared Ownership allows buyers to purchase a share of their home, typically between 25-75%, while paying rent on the remainder.
Over time, owners can increase their stake through “staircasing” until they reach full ownership.
IDEAL MODEL
Jane Williams, Head of Sales at Southern Housing, said the model was ideal for those priced out of the open market: “It offers a secure way to get on the property ladder, with the flexibility to build equity at a pace that suits individual circumstances.”
At Holmhurst Gardens in Baldslow, Hastings, 130 homes are being delivered with landscaped gardens, sustainable technologies and two parking spaces per property. Prices for a 25% share of a two-bedroom home start at £86,250.
The scheme, which has been shortlisted for a First Time Buyer Readers’ Award, also incorporates historic features such as a Grade I-listed statue salvaged from St Paul’s Cathedral.
PRIORITY FOR LOCAL BUYERS
Nearby, Foundry Close in Hurst Green has just launched, offering houses within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The development is a short walk from local amenities and less than a mile from the station with direct trains to London.
Due later this year, Ingrams Farm in Ninfield will bring new homes close to Battle, with family-friendly features including a children’s park on site. A 25% share of a two-bedroom property starts from £83,125.
Southern Housing is prioritising local buyers first, giving people with ties to Hastings and Rother the earliest opportunity to secure a home.
