Octopus Energy and Rightmove are teaming up to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon home technology in a move that brings together the UK’s largest energy supplier and its biggest property portal.
The partnership comes amid a sharp rise in consumer interest in green features, with heat pumps, solar panels and battery systems appearing more frequently in home searches and listings.
Rightmove data shows that references to heat pumps in property descriptions have risen 46% in the past year, while mentions of solar panels are up 37%.
Demand is being driven not only by environmental concerns but by household budgets, with rising numbers of buyers now actively seeking homes that promise lower running costs.
PROVEN COST SAVINGS
Octopus research suggests satisfaction levels among early adopters are high. Nine in ten homeowners with heat pumps say they are pleased they made the change, with 94% reporting their homes are as comfortable or more comfortable than when heated by a traditional gas boiler.
The companies believe that highlighting proven cost savings could help tip greener technologies into the mainstream.
“Rightmove is adding a new “Zero Bills” label.”
As an initial step, Rightmove is adding a new “Zero Bills” label for developments fitted with the systems required to run on Octopus Energy’s Zero Bills tariff.
The tariff guarantees no energy bills for between five and ten years in homes equipped with a heat pump, solar panels and a battery, and is being marketed as a potential boost to property value as well as a way to lower annual costs.
Rightmove data suggests movers trading up from a typical EPC-rated D home to a Zero Bills property could save more than £2,350 a year.
