Propertymark asks agents about home buying reforms

Propertymark is calling on its members to have their say as it launches a series of virtual roundtables and an industry-wide survey in response to the UK Government’s consultations on Home Buying and Selling Reform and Material Information requirements.

With proposed reforms that could represent the biggest shake-up to the home buying process in a generation, Propertymark wants to make sure the voices of agents – the people who make the market move – are front and centre.
The Government’s plans aim to reduce fall-throughs and speed up transactions.

Topics on the table include qualification requirements for estate and letting agents; the introduction of digital logbooks; binding contracts between buyers and sellers and future guidance on Material Information.

VIRTUAL ROUND-TABLES

To ensure feedback reflects the day-to-day realities of agents across the UK, Propertymark will host a series of interactive virtual roundtables, open to all members.

Monday 27 October: 13:00–15:00

Tuesday 28 October: 13:00–15:00

Wednesday 29 October: 13:00–15:00

Thursday 30 October: 13:00–15:00

INDUSTRY SURVEY

Alongside the roundtables, Propertymark has launched a detailed survey to capture the views of agents on key aspects of the reforms.

The survey will explore government objectives for home buying and selling; raising professional standards; the practicalities of implementing digital logbooks; binding contracts and consumer support; streamlining ID verification as well as the challenges of providing upfront information.

YOUR INPUT MATTERS

Timothy Douglas (main picture), Head of Policy and Campaigns at Propertymark, says: “We welcome the UK Government’s initiative to reform the home buying and selling process, which has long been in need of modernisation.

“But reforms must be realistic, achievable and deliver genuine benefits. Our virtual roundtables and survey are designed to make sure the views of agents on the front line are heard loud and clear.”

GET INVOLVED

Propertymark is urging all members to take part in the roundtables, and all agents across the sector to complete the survey.

This is your chance to help shape policy that’s practical, evidence-based and designed to work in the real world.
