PropCall owner urges CEOs to put people at the forefront of their business

The boss of a leading out-of-hours property management service is encouraging business owners to invest more in their employee wellbeing offerings.

Aaron Mcwilliam (main picture), Managing Director at PropCall, believes putting resources into the ‘people’ aspect of your business could be the difference between retaining a happy, long-standing workforce or finding yourself without enough staff to make it operationally viable.

In a recent 2024 survey of HR leaders by HRdatahub, over 60 per cent believed business leaders continue to see HR as primarily an administrative function.

Mcwilliam, who started PropCall to help improve the work-life balance of property professionals, says the key to retaining happy staff members who are committed to their work is to focus a large proportion of energy, time and resources on employee experience and engagement.

HEART OF THE BUSINESS

He says: “People are at the heart of all businesses and are your biggest asset. HR and people-focused roles and tasks can often be put to the bottom of the all-important work-week task list, but we believe they should always be paramount.

“If you don’t invest in your staff they will start to lose their motivation and you will find yourself endlessly recruiting and stretching your experienced colleagues to the point of burnout, which can put your business at risk.”

Kevin Carlton Jones Kevin Carlton-Jones PropCall recently introduced a new Head of People role, promoting former Customer Service Manager Kevin Carlton-Jones. The role was created to put more focus on the staff behind the company, and invest in their ongoing development and wellbeing at work.

Carlton-Jones says: “We know that not everyone will be with us forever and that some staff members will eventually move on, but we want to help them as much as possible on their career journey and make sure whatever time they spend at PropCall is positive and enjoyable.

“Hopefully, many of them will be able to grow with the business and find new challenges and goals as part of the continual learning and development we offer.

“If you invest in your people and show them how much you care, they will do the same in return.”
