Nicol & Co launch ‘The Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ for second year running

‘The Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ is coming back this summer, with organisers Nicol & Co expecting “an even bigger and better” event for 2024.

The mass community day first ran in June last year to help homeowners declutter their homes and sell unwanted items.

Hundreds of sellers and buyers took part as scores of individual households in more than 45 streets across the county simultaneously held garage sales.

Now estate agent Nicol & Co hopes to get even more people to sign up for what will be the event’s second consecutive year on Saturday 8 June.

Matt Nicol (main picture), managing director of Nicol & Co, explains: ‘The Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ was a great way for people to sell items they no longer needed, potentially making some money and connecting with the community.

HINTS AND TIPS

He says Nicol & Co will share hints and tips to help people with their sorting and packaging process in the lead up to the big day and will provide signage to promote streets where homeowners are taking part.

The Big Garage SaleThe Big Garage SalHe says“Our launch event last summer was a fabulous day and we had great feedback from everyone taking part that they loved doing it.

Nicol says: “They all managed to get rid of plenty of unwanted items, chatted to loads of neighbours on their drives and front gardens than they would normally, plus they all made a bit of money as well.

“In the end, we had more than 45 streets signed up, and with some streets having four or five households joining in we estimate that at least 80 households took part.

“But last year’s event was very much a pilot, we learned so much about what time of day to start and finish, and how to get the message out there.

BIGGER AND BETTER

“On Saturday 8 June we’re expecting an even bigger and better day, as we’re hoping to see everyone from last year taking part again and to welcome scores of new households joining in.”

He adds: “Holding a garage sale can be a great way to meet neighbours and chat to members of the community, whilst also having a positive impact on the environment by reducing waste and keeping items out of landfills, giving them a new lease of life instead.”
