Nick Maclean inaugurated as 144th RICS president

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has inaugurated Nick Maclean OBE RD FRICS as its 144th president, with the ceremony held on Thursday 22 January at RICS headquarters in Westminster.

In his inaugural address, Maclean (main picture, inset) set out a forward-looking vision for the institution, placing education, influence and confidence at the centre of his presidency.
He reflected on RICS’ recent period of reform and recovery, highlighting renewed resilience and readiness to play a stronger role in shaping the built and natural environment in the public interest.

He reaffirmed RICS’ mission to advance knowledge and uphold professional standards, with a renewed focus on widening access to the surveying profession, strengthening educational pathways and protecting the global standing of RICS qualifications.

TRUSTED ADVISER

Maclean also emphasised the institution’s role in public policy and regulatory decision-making, pointing to the expertise of its 144,000 members across 76 countries and RICS’ ambition to act as a trusted adviser to governments and regulators worldwide.

Alongside the inauguration, RICS launched a presidential team manifesto, Together Towards Tomorrow, which sets out key priorities for 2026.

These include enhancing RICS’ influence with policymakers, addressing skills gaps through collaboration with industry and academia, championing digital transformation and sustainability, and strengthening member engagement, diversity and global relevance.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

RICS President Nick Maclean, says: “It is a distinct honour to become President of RICS for 2026. I am equally honoured to be joined by an excellent presidential team in the form of Maureen Ehrenberg and Susanne Eickermann-Rieppe, who shall serve as President Elect and Senior Vice President, respectively.

“Our team is committed to delivering our five strategic objectives: creating enriching experiences for all members; attracting and retaining a diverse membership; empowering members with relevant skills and capabilities; upholding confidence in the profession; and strengthening RICS’ global leadership, expertise and influence.

“I look forward to meeting many more of our members across the UK and the globe this year, and I encourage everyone to read and engage with Together Towards Tomorrow, our keystone document for 2026.”
