New version of key property form launched

A new version of one of the most widely used documents in the homebuying process has been launched by the Law Society of England and Wales.

The updated TA6 Property Information Form – now in its sixth edition – has been in development for almost a year and is designed to make the process clearer and more consistent for estate agents, conveyancers and sellers alike.
More than 1,200 solicitors, licensed conveyancers, estate agents and home sellers provided feedback on the previous version, helping to shape the revisions to both structure and content.

The new form was tested by conveyancers and sellers to ensure the questions are clearer and the guidance more intuitive, reducing confusion and improving the overall accuracy of information provided during property transactions.

ACCURATE AND PRACTICAL

Law Society president Mark Evans (main picture, inset) says: “Our job is to ensure the transaction forms used in the home buying and selling process are not just accurate but practical.

“The new sixth version is a simpler form with clearer explanatory notes. Sellers can feel more confident filling it out and knowing when to get advice from their solicitor.”

The sixth edition of the TA6 replaces both the fourth and fifth editions.

KEY UPDATES
  • Questions on material information added to the fifth edition, to comply with National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agency Team guidance, have been removed.
  • The form has been streamlined to 15 sections – ten fewer than before.
  • More ‘not known’ options have been introduced where sellers may be unsure of specific details.
  • Explanatory notes have been rewritten to be clearer, with improved signposting and more practical examples.

A revised fifth edition of the TA7 Leasehold Information Form has also been launched to align with the updates to the TA6.

Both the TA6 (sixth edition) and TA7 (fifth edition) will become mandatory for Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) members from 30 March 2026.
