The disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh is being re-examined by detectives amid fresh scrutiny of convicted serial killer Steven Wright’s possible connection to the case.
The Mirror reports that officers from the Metropolitan Police’s cold case Homicide unit are reviewing Operation Phoebus, the original investigation into Suzy’s disappearance in July 1986.
The renewed focus follows information that Wright, known as the Suffolk Strangler, worked on the QE2 luxury liner at the same time as Suzy and was in the UK when she vanished.
Wright, 67, is serving a whole-life sentence for the murders of five women in Ipswich in 2006 and recently admitted killing a sixth victim, Victoria Hall. Police are now expected to question him about Suzy’s disappearance.

Shipping records indicate the QE2 docked in Southampton in the early hours of 28 July 1986 – the same day 25-year-old Suzy went missing after leaving her Fulham office to meet a client listed in her diary as “Mr Kipper”.
Witnesses have said Wright and Suzy knew each other from their time working aboard the ship, where she had previously been employed as a beautician and he as a steward.
Suzy’s white Ford Fiesta was discovered later that evening about a mile from the property she was due to show. The vehicle was badly parked and her purse was left inside. Several witnesses reported seeing a woman matching her description with a man around lunchtime.
John Cannan was previously considered the prime suspect but was never charged and died last year. Wright has not previously been formally interviewed about the Lamplugh case.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said the investigation into Suzy Lamplugh’s disappearance and murder remains ongoing, and detectives continue to assess any new information brought to their attention as they seek justice for her family.
