House-hunters flock to ‘most beautiful village in the world’

Interest in property in Bibury, the Cotswolds village recently named the “most beautiful in the world”, has almost quadrupled.

Rightmove said searches for homes for sale in the village rose 273% in the past week after it topped a global ranking of picturesque locations.
The surge echoes a 63% rise in interest in Burford last year after Jeremy Clarkson opened a pub there.

Homes in Bibury’s GL7 postcode carry an average asking price of £510,899, almost £150,000 above the national average of £370,247.

SOUGHT-AFTER MARKETS

Across the wider Cotswolds, Cirencester, Moreton-in-Marsh and Tetbury are among the most sought-after markets, according to the property portal.

Mary-Lou Press, president of the National Association of Estate Agents, added: “Picturesque properties are becoming increasingly desirable and carry a higher price tag due to rising demand in the UK.

“The Cotswolds, in particular, is a favoured location to live due to its stunning rural scenery and charming honey-coloured stone villages. This region offers countryside serenity and practical living, with outdoor pursuits, rich history and culture, and good local amenities.”
