Gas Safety Week: Propertymark urges agents to lead the way

Propertymark has renewed its backing for Gas Safety Week, running from 8–14 September 2025, calling on agents to use the campaign as an opportunity to build trust with landlords and tenants by promoting vital safety standards.

The annual initiative, coordinated by the Gas Safe Register, highlights the risks of poorly maintained gas appliances – including leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning – and encourages everyone involved in the housing sector to take responsibility.
This year’s theme, “Looking after your home, friends, family”, stresses the role of agents, landlords and tenants in spreading awareness and keeping properties safe.

Nathan Emerson (main picture), Chief Executive of Propertymark, says: “This year, we’re proudly supporting Gas Safety Week, providing agents with vital safety information to promote awareness and prevent potentially dangerous appliance incidents. We encourage agents to utilise this opportunity to enhance their knowledge and contribute to a safer community.”

WHY IT MATTERS

Supporting Gas Safety Week not only helps protect tenants but also strengthens relationships with landlords. Demonstrating proactive compliance and knowledge can set agents apart in a competitive market.

Key reminders for landlords and managing agents include: arranging annual safety checks with Gas Safe registered engineers, installing and testing carbon monoxide alarms, spotting warning signs such as lazy yellow flames or black marks on appliances, and ensuring vents and flues remain clear.

Gas Safe Register is the UK’s official list of legally qualified engineers. To find one, visit www.gassaferegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
