Martin & Co Welwyn Garden City is entering a new era as father-and-daughter team Nigel Underdown and Mikala Hatfield (main picture) take ownership of the long-established branch.
The pair succeed Stephen Dooley, who retires this autumn after more than a decade of dedicated service to the local property market.
With a combined 45 years in estate agency and property management, the new owners bring both experience and a distinctly personal touch to the business.
Their takeover marks the next stage in the branch’s evolution, blending deep-rooted professionalism with the warmth and values of a family-run enterprise.

Nigel and Mikala plan to build on the strong foundations established under Dooley’s leadership, with a focus on continuity, community engagement and modernisation where it matters most.
Under their direction, the branch will place renewed emphasis on transparency, client education and proactive communication – ensuring buyers, sellers and landlords alike receive the highest standard of service.

Mikala says: “We’ve both shared a lifelong passion for property and people, so when the opportunity arose to take over the Welwyn Garden City branch, it felt like the perfect fit.
“Having already worked together across several ventures, this was a natural next step, combining Nigel’s decades of experience in estate agency with my background in property management and lettings. We’re excited to bring a fresh yet experienced perspective to the local market.”

Nigel, a seasoned landlord with more than 30 years’ experience, brings extensive market knowledge and an investor’s perspective. Mikala complements that expertise with 15 years in property management, compliance, and client relations. She has also successfully run several businesses, including Farm Parties, founded in memory of her son, who tragically passed away from SUDC in 2024.
EDUCATIONAL EVENTS
Looking ahead, the new leadership team plans to host regular landlord education events, including an upcoming session on 4 November at Mill Green Golf Club focused on the Renters Reform Bill and its implications for local landlords.
They also intend to strengthen the branch’s sales offering, providing a seamless, end-to-end service for clients at every stage of their property journey.
