ecmk has been appointed training and accreditation partner for the UK Government’s Warm Homes Skills Programme (WHSP) in a move designed to tackle the chronic skills shortage in the retrofit and energy efficiency sector.
The Midlands Net Zero Hub, acting on behalf of government, ran the competitive process, selecting ecmk to provide ABBE-accredited training for new entrants and existing professionals.
ABBE (Awarding Body for the Built Environment) is a recognised awarding organisation, ensuring that qualifications carry weight across the retrofit supply chain.
The WHSP forms a central part of the Government’s net zero strategy, aiming to build a workforce capable of delivering large-scale retrofit projects, from insulation and ventilation upgrades to whole-house retrofit planning and coordination.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
For property professionals, the programme also signals increased momentum behind policies designed to improve the energy efficiency of Britain’s ageing housing stock – a factor already shaping lender criteria and valuation approaches.

Adam Casey, director at ecmk, says: “This programme is about more than training – it’s about creating lasting change on the ground. We’re committed to raising industry standards and building a skilled workforce that can deliver high-quality, energy-efficient homes across the UK.
“We believe that by embedding quality at the point of delivery, we can unlock the full potential of the UK’s retrofit sector. This is about setting a new standard – for training, for delivery, and for impact.”
Alongside industry stakeholders, ecmk will focus on making training accessible and responsive to workforce needs, with the programme expected to support both carbon reduction targets and regional economic regeneration through the creation of green jobs.
