E.ON has ramped up its campaign to help housing providers deliver warmer, cheaper-to-run homes, after revealing the scale of its retrofit and energy-efficiency work across Yorkshire, the Humber and Lincolnshire.
At a behind-the-scenes event at its Blackburn Meadows renewable energy plant in Sheffield, the company set out how its end-to-end delivery model – from initial design through to construction and installation – has helped partners unlock £514m in government-backed funding since 2020.
That support has enabled nearly 30,000 energy-saving measures to be installed, improving warmth, comfort and affordability for more than 19,400 vulnerable households.
Housing providers at the event were shown how targeted retrofit programmes can cut emissions, reduce energy demand and deliver immediate quality-of-life benefits for residents.
DECARBONISATION EFFORTS
Delegates also toured the Blackburn Meadows biomass plant, which generates low-carbon heat and electricity for local buildings using waste wood that would otherwise go to landfill – a live demonstration of the kind of infrastructure underpinning wider regional decarbonisation efforts.

Alan Jones, National Business Development Manager at EIS, says: “The day was a powerful reminder of what true collaboration can achieve.
“By bringing together funding support, technical expertise, and large-scale infrastructure solutions, we can accelerate meaningful progress.
“At E.ON we remain firmly committed to partnering with organisations on their decarbonisation and net-zero journeys, ensuring we deliver real, lasting change for communities and the environment. Together, we can continue to create warmer homes, lower bills, and stronger communities.”
PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS
Attendees praised the focus on practical solutions and real-world results, including insights into how local authorities are deploying retrofit funding.

Thomas Eastwood of Hull City Council’s Warm Homes Team, says: “It was inspiring to see Blackburn Meadows biomass power station in action, powering the local district heating network.
“It was also encouraging to hear how these decarbonisation initiatives are helping local residents enjoy warmer, more comfortable homes.
“At Hull City Council, we are passionate about this mission and are working closely with E.ON to bring warmer, more affordable housing to communities across the city.”
Joe Hill, Business Development Manager at E.ON, adds: “I have seen first-hand the benefits that Green Funding Solutions bring to improve the lives of residents most in need.
“Our focus is on installing measures that reduce bills for residents, such as insulation to lower heat demand, energy generation through solar, and low-carbon heat for more efficient heating systems.”
