Conveyancing Association launches 2025 Lender Survey to address industry challenges

The Conveyancing Association (CA) has unveiled its 2025 Lender Survey which seeks to gather comprehensive feedback from conveyancers on a range of issues affecting the property transaction process.

The CA wants to improve collaboration between conveyancers, lenders, surveyors, valuers, and other key stakeholders.
The survey, which will remain open until 14th February 2025, focuses on identifying persistent challenges in the conveyancing process, such as delays in post-offer queries, inconsistencies in lender communication, and inefficiencies in the handling of mortgage instructions.

By addressing these issues, the CA hopes to streamline property transactions and enhance the overall experience for all parties involved.

CRITICAL ASPECTS

Conveyancers participating in the survey will be asked to evaluate lenders on several critical aspects, including he clarity, receipt, and delivery methods of mortgage instructions; waiting times and responsiveness to queries; consistency in lender communication and decision-making as well ad access to registration information from HM Land Registry.

The survey also wants conveyancers to provide detailed feedback on the frequency and nature of post-offer queries; instances of amended or withdrawn mortgage offers and processes for escalating and resolving issues.

The survey also explores potential improvements to the UK Finance and Building Societies Association (BSA) Handbooks, with a particular focus on reducing delays in the post-mortgage offer process. This comes as UK Finance is currently undertaking a project to digitise the Handbook, a development that could significantly modernise the industry.

Beth Rudolf, Director of Delivery at the Conveyancing Association, says: “Our Lender Survey is a vital tool for understanding the challenges faced by conveyancers and identifying practical solutions.

“In the past, we’ve seen tangible results from this feedback, such as Santander’s decision to include middle names on pre-printed mortgage deeds, which eliminated a significant source of post-offer queries.”

Rudolf adds: “We encourage all conveyancers to take part in the survey and share their experiences. The insights we gather will help us work with lenders and other stakeholders to address issues at their root and create a more efficient process for everyone. As a token of appreciation, respondents will be entered into a prize draw for £100 in Amazon vouchers.”
