CA launches online roundtable to shape consultation responses

The Conveyancing Association (CA) has announced an online roundtable for 3 December aimed at gathering member input on two major Government consultations that could reshape the home-buying and selling process.

With both consultations closing on 29 December, the CA is seeking to ensure frontline conveyancers have a direct influence on how the industry responds.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government is currently consulting on reforms intended to reduce delays, uncertainty and fall-throughs in property transactions, as well as proposals to expand upfront Material Information to improve transparency for buyers.

The CA is urging legal firms to contribute their views, warning that the policy outcomes will have a long-term impact on day-to-day conveyancing practice.

EVIDENCE-GATHERING

The online session will form a core part of the Association’s evidence-gathering, alongside a member survey. Insights collected will shape the CA’s consolidated submission to Government and ensure the profession’s practical experience is reflected in the final recommendations.

To support firms in understanding the scope and potential consequences of the proposals, the roundtable will bring together representatives from across the home-moving ecosystem, including a practising conveyancer, Propertymark on behalf of estate agents and the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries representing mortgage brokers.

The panel will explore the major themes, outline operational implications and take questions from attendees.

SHAPING THE FUTURE

Nicky Heathcote, Non-Executive Chair of The Conveyancing Association, says: “It doesn’t need me to tell the conveyancing industry just how important these Government consultations and their outcomes are going to be for the future of the profession and the services members will offer to consumers.

“These consultations cover proposals that will shape the way property transactions are completed for years to come, so it is vital the practical experience of conveyancers is reflected in the final policy direction.”

CLEAR OVERVIEW

And she adds: “Our online roundtable will provide a clear overview of the issues, give participants the chance to hear perspectives from across the sector, and ensure the CA’s response is informed by those working at the heart of the process, as will our survey, which we are encouraging all members to complete.

“It’s vital we hear from our members so we can ensure their wants and needs are placed at the heart of the proposals which will emanate from the Government after these consultations close.”

The issues raised will also feed into the agenda at the CA’s 2026 Annual Conference, where members will have the opportunity to explore the reforms in greater depth as part of wider discussions on the future of the conveyancing sector.
