Propertymark is bringing some political clout to its Manchester Regional Conference later this month with Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham confirmed as keynote speaker.
Burnham, who has held the mayoralty since 2017, will set out his housing priorities for the region when he takes the stage on 16 September at the Midland Hotel.
Expect plenty of discussion around the Good Landlord Charter – his flagship initiative launched earlier this year to raise standards for both private and social tenants – plus updates on the city-region’s £300 million housing investment fund and spatial framework plans.
The Mayor’s session, Your housing priorities for Greater Manchester, runs from 12.15pm to 12.45pm and is billed as a chance for agents to hear first-hand how they can play a part in delivering better standards in housing.
TOP LINE-UP
He’ll be joined on the conference programme by a strong line-up of industry figures, including Christian Balshen, Director of Agency Partnerships at Rightmove; Alex Jeffrey, Partner at Bright Solicitors; and James Munro, Head of the National Trading Standards and Estate and Letting Agency Team.
As well as regional priorities, the agenda will tackle national hot topics – among them the Renters’ Rights Bill, looming Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards that will require EPC C by 2030, and updates to the Decent Homes Standard. Propertymark is also engaging closely with government on reforming the home buying and selling process.
KEY PRIORITIES

Nathan Emerson, Chief Executive at Propertymark, says: “We are delighted to welcome the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to Propertymark’s Manchester Regional Conference this year.
“Housing and the private rented sector in particular are key priorities for the Mayor, so it will be a fantastic opportunity for members to understand more about the Mayor’s Good Landlord Charter and how they can be part of the solution to driving up standards working with landlords, tenants and local authorities.”
The Manchester Regional Conference runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm, and in response to growing demand, Propertymark has doubled the size of its conference programme. Members can attend for free.
