Just Mortgages, one of the UK’s largest mortgage brokerages and part of the Spicer Haart Group, has expanded its self-employed management team with the appointment of Alex Clifford (main picture) as area director for the Midlands and South West.
With over 18 years in financial services and residential property sales, Clifford brings expertise from both estate agency and mortgage brokering.
In his new role, he will work across the region to mentor self-employed brokers and support their day-to-day operations, all while helping them to shape business plans and explore growth opportunities.
Clifford joins from Countrywide, where he was mortgage services sales manager for three years.
ESTATE AGENCY
Clifford began his career in an independent estate agency before moving to Connells as branch manager.
During this time, he worked closely with in-house mortgage advisers, sparking his interest in the sector. He then trained as an adviser with Sequence, rising to mortgage service manager before moving into self-employment and then to Countrywide.
This appointment further strengthens Just Mortgages’ self-employed management team, which supports close to 500 advisers nationwide.
GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES
Clifford says: “Joining a fast-growing, ambitious company like Just Mortgages is incredibly exciting, as its culture and mindset perfectly align with my own.
“The supportive community here is second to none, offering brokers the rare chance to be self-employed while still fully backed. I’m eager to contribute my experience to strengthen this culture and help brokers unlock growth opportunities.
“My goal is to use my skills to build on the outstanding work already being done, supporting ambitious brokers to accelerate their success.
“Just Mortgages provides the environment for advisers to step out of traditional corporate constraints and create thriving businesses, and I am proud to be a part of that journey.”
MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Ben Allkins, head of mortgages and protection at Just Mortgages, adds: “At Just Mortgages, we’re committed to giving self-employed brokers the best possible platform to succeed, and bringing Alex on board is a big step in strengthening that support.
“His career across both estate agency and mortgage broking means he truly understands the intricacies of life as an adviser, and the kind of guidance that makes a difference.
“Alex’s blend of experience and mentorship will be invaluable for our brokers. His appointment reinforces our culture of community and collaboration, ensuring advisers have not just the tools, but the backing and encouragement to build successful sustainable businesses.”
