A leading entrepreneur has called on property professionals to make a New Year’s resolution to ‘go it alone’ in 2025.
Sean Newman, chief executive and founder of The Experts Group, believes that although the run up to Christmas can be incredibly busy with most folk rushing around with no time to think once it’s all over most people find themselves with time on their hands to relax and think about the year ahead.
He says: “We know this to be true because we have the data. Just watch how many people will find themselves browsing through the Rightmove website on Boxing Day in search of a new home for 2025.
“As soon as the debris of Christmas Day is tidied neatly away, people begin to wind down and start reflecting on where they are and what they’re doing with their lives.”
NEW YEAR, NEW START

He adds: “January is a great month for making big decisions – New Year, new start. And I would encourage all confident, competent property professionals to resolve to stop working for other people and to start working for themselves.”
Newman has launched a range of property businesses that support those with entrepreneurial ambitions. His self-employed agency network is growing and he provides the platform for The Property Experts, The Letting Experts, The Mortgage Experts, The Auction Experts and luxury agency, Fine & Country.
TOOLS, TECH, SUPPORT
Newman says: “Our goal is to provide the best and most attractive business model for self-employed agents in the UK, providing all of the tools, technology and support to allow entrepreneurial and ambitious agents to build their own successful business.
“All our experts share a vision: to raise standards by providing a first-class service, excellent marketing, and outstanding results for their clients.
“We support them with marketing information and expertise and state-of-the-art technology. Our agents keep 70% of their commission or fee in return. It’s a supportive collaboration and its forward-thinking – it’s the future.”
GROWING QUICKLY

In the United States, 87% of realtors are classed as independent contractors and the number in the UK is growing quickly.
According to October’s Property and Homemover Report, exchanges among self-employed agents grew by 8.1% in 2023 and year on year growth stood at 22.8%.
Newman adds: “As we head into 2025, the future looks bright for the property sector,” said Newman. But the real winners will be the ones who are running their own businesses.
“High Street agencies carry a lot of unnecessary costs which are increasing all the time. Our model provides the freedom required to grow your business without those worries and to mould that business around your lifestyle, while still providing first-class service.
BE YOUR OWN BOSS
“It is very common for agents to worry about starting their own business, they can often take months to pluck up the courage to make the decision. However, on the 1st anniversary all agents say the same thing, ‘I wish, I had started sooner.’
“My advice is, make the decision to be your own boss in 2025, then you can start thinking about a date to aim for, do some research and start planning the next chapter of your career.”
