Abri to deliver 40 new affordable homes at Green Park Village in Reading

Housing association Abri has agreed a deal with St Edward, part of the Berkeley Group, to deliver 40 affordable homes at Green Park Village in Reading – a move set to ease pressure on the town’s oversubscribed housing register.

All 40 homes will be made available for affordable rent, typically around 20% below market rates, and allocated to people on Reading Borough Council’s waiting list, which currently numbers more than 2,500 households.
The homes – a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments – form part of the lakeside Green Park Village development, which already includes a primary school and Reading Green Park railway station.

The scheme is being supported by grant funding from Homes England through Abri’s Strategic Partnership, with the housing provider also contributing from its own resources to ensure all homes are delivered for affordable rent.

Thomas Wells, Land Manager at Abri, says: “Working with Berkeley Group again strengthens our partnership and successful track record of delivering well-designed, affordable homes without compromising standards.

“The new homes form part of Abri’s wider commitment to building 10,000 new homes by 2030 and by working collaboratively, we’re able to support more people and deliver real, lasting change.”

AFFORDABLE HOMES

The announcement follows a period of rapid delivery in Reading for Abri, with more than 258 affordable homes either under construction or in the pipeline across the town.

These include 134 homes being built by Abri’s in-house construction team, including 54 at Chatham Street, 40 at Caversham Road and another 40 at Elgar Road South – all of which are 100% affordable housing schemes.

Elsewhere, Abri is partnering with Vistry at the former Reading Golf Course site in Emmer Green to deliver 124 affordable homes as part of a 223-home redevelopment.

The Green Park Village homes are the latest addition to Abri’s growing footprint in Reading, as the housing provider accelerates delivery in key growth areas through strategic partnerships and targeted investment.
